Needlepointers are a resourceful bunch. We see five free minutes and think, “Perfect, I can get a few stitches in.” And when inspiration strikes—or we’re just trying to make the most of a crazy schedule—we’ll stitch anywhere.
I mean anywhere.
Sure, we’ve all curled up with a canvas on the couch. But the real thrill? Stitching in the wild. The truly inconvenient, unpredictable, and sometimes downright hilarious places we’ve managed to thread a needle.
Here are just a few:
🛫 Airplanes – Tiny tray table? Check. Elbow-to-elbow strangers? Check. Still stitching? Absolutely.
⚾ Baseball games – Because we all know there are exactly 5 minutes of actual baseball in a 3-hour game.
⚖️ Jury duty – Justice may be blind, but she appreciates a nice decorative stitch.
🧑⚕️ Doctor’s offices – We all know that “your appointment is at 2:00” really means “we’ll see you at 3:15.”
🏖️ The beach – Sand, sun, and the constant threat of flying floss. Who said needlepoint wasn’t extreme?
🚗 The car (while parked!) – Sometimes the car is the only place with peace and quiet… and cupholders for threads.
And of course—anywhere there’s waiting. We are masters of the portable project bag.
Honestly, we think needlepoint should be an Olympic sport. Or at least recognized as a form of advanced time management.
Have you stitched somewhere strange? Do share in the comments! We’d love to do a roundup of the most unexpected places Stitch Sloth members have brought their canvases.
